I pledge my commitment to the Cuban people — on the island and wherever they have made their homes — and to the rights that belong to every person: to speak freely, to gather peacefully, to worship as they choose, to work and provide for their families, and to have a voice in how they are governed.

Most of us were not there. We grew up on the stories — the house that was left, the relative who was jailed, the boat, the plane, the lottery, the parole. We inherited the grief without the memory, and we were told the fight belonged to our grandparents.

It is ours now. The people of Cuba are still asking for the same things they asked for in 1959, in 1980, in 1994, in 2021: to speak, to gather, to choose. The organizations that carried this cause for sixty years did their part. A new generation of Cuban Americans — spread across Florida, New Jersey, Texas, and every state in between — has not yet done ours.

The pledge is where that starts. It is not a party, a platform, or a plan for the island. It is a personal commitment, signed by name, to the Cuban people and to each other.

The Cuba Pledge was started in 2026 by a small group of first- and second-generation Cuban Americans, most of them under thirty-five, born in the United States to families who left the island in different decades and for different reasons. We are not a political party and we do not endorse candidates. We are organizing as a nonpartisan civic and educational nonprofit.
Compromiso por Cuba nació en 2026 de un pequeño grupo de cubanoamericanos de primera y segunda generación, casi todos menores de treinta y cinco años, nacidos en los Estados Unidos en familias que salieron de la isla en distintas décadas y por distintas razones. No somos un partido político y no apoyamos candidatos. Nos organizamos como una entidad cívica y educativa sin fines de lucro y sin afiliación partidista.
Our founding idea is 135 years old. In 1891, José Martí stood before Cuban cigar workers in Tampa and told them the republic they were building had to be made with everyone, and for the good of everyone. He was an exile, in Florida, speaking to working people, organizing for a free Cuba. That is the tradition we claim.
Nuestra idea fundacional tiene 135 años. En 1891, José Martí se paró frente a los tabaqueros cubanos de Tampa y les dijo que la república que construían tenía que hacerse con todos, y para el bien de todos.
